Introduction

Dr. Chai is the Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and a Professor of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine.

Dr. Chai graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. He completed his General Surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center and spent an additional 2 years of research at Duke investigating cerebral protection strategies during pediatric cardiac surgery. He completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center and his Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at University of Michigan/ Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prior to joining Children’s, Dr. Chai was Associate Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center in New York and simultaneously served as Director of Pediatric Cardiac Transplantation and Mechanical Assistance at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York/NY-Presbyterian.

His clinical interests include neonatal heart surgery, complex congenital heart defect repair, pediatric cardiac transplantation and pediatric mechanical support systems.

Away from the hospital, Dr. Chai enjoys time with his family, fly-fishing, and travel.
