Introduction
Fred “Rusty” Rodriguez, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Departments of Cardiology, at Emory University School of Medicine. He attended LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and then completed combined training in internal medicine and pediatrics there. He completed his pediatric cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital, and Texas Heart Institute, then did additional training in adult congenital heart disease. He is board certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, pediatric cardiology and adult congenital heart disease. His clinical focus is caring for pediatric cardiology patients admitted to the hospital and for adult congenital patients in clinic and in the hospital. From a research standpoint, he is on the administrative committee for the Alliance for Adult Research in Congenital Cardiology (AARCC) which is a multi-institutional research consortium focused on the care of adults with congenital heart disease. He also is a co-investigator in the CDC’s “Surveillance of Congenital Heart Defects Across the Lifespan.” He is the site primary investigator for the Pediatric Heart Network’s (PHN) “Multi-Institutional Neurocognitive Discovery Study in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (MINDS-ACHD). His other specific areas of care include adults and children who have undergone the Fontan procedure as well as those with systemic right ventricles. Dr. Rodriguez works to improve the transition of patients from pediatric cardiology to adult congenital. He is passionate about teaching trainees and patients about congenital heart disease.
