How Can I Volunteer at Children's?
At Children’s, our mission is to make kids better today and healthier tomorrow. From assisting with patient care to customer service and administrative support, our dedicated team of hospital volunteers is at the heart of everything we do. Whether you’re helping at the gift shop, making a delivery to a patient’s room or interacting at the bedside, you will positively affect a family’s hospital experience.
Children’s offers many hospital volunteer and educational opportunities for a variety of ages and groups:
Support Children's From Home
While in-person volunteer opportunities are currently more limited, there are still many ways you can help from the comfort of home. Your donations will help fuel, clothe and entertain patients and families during their visit or stay in one of our hospitals.
How you can help:
- Decide which Children’s hospital you’d like to support: Arthur M. Blank Hospital, Hughes Spalding or Scottish Rite
- Decide how you want to help:
- Host a toy drive
- Assemble craft kits and create other activities for patients
- Provide meal kits or grocery items for the food pantry
- Donate pajama packs or family care kits
- Provide shout-outs for staff
- Have your donation pre-approved to help make sure you are meeting our hospital’s most urgent needs. Contact the volunteer coordinator at the hospital you’d like to support for specific guidelines.
Join Family Engagement
We know that family members of our patients can bring unique insights to the care we provide. To tap into this resource, Children's has established the Family Advisory Council (FAC) and Friends of FAC, which seek to improve the quality of care at Children’s through collaboration, insight and engagement of our patients and families.
If you are a parent or primary caregiver and interested in joining the FAC or Friends of FAC, or have additional questions regarding family engagement at Children's, please contact us at thefamilyvoice@choa.org and a member of our team will follow up with you soon. We look forward to learning more about you and your interest in family engagement at Children’s!
This group aims to offer patient families a way to provide formal feedback to Children’s on a pre-determined schedule. The goals of the FAC are:
- To fortify relationships between patients, families, staff and community.
- To provide a safe environment for patients and families to offer input in a setting where they receive care.
- To collaborate with staff to improve both clinical and nonclinical care for all patients and families.
Members of the council may opt out at any time.
The goal of the Friends of FAC is to offer patient families a way to provide valuable feedback to Children’s on a flexible schedule. Involvement may include the following:
- Invitation to participate in special events or speaking engagements.
- Invitation to participate in special projects in partnership with Children’s.
- Invitation to complete brief questionnaires by email and give honest feedback on various areas and aspects of the health system.
- Invitation to provide feedback on patient-facing education materials.
Members of the group may opt out at any time.
Eligibility for the FAC and Friends of FAC membership is as follows:
- Parent or primary caregiver must be 18 years of age or older.
- Patient(s) must be 18 years of age or younger.
- Members must have used Children's services within the past 12 months.
