We strive to offer you a service experience that is seamless, consistent and special. That means it is easy for you to move through our hospital, you feel cared about throughout your entire stay and you get the information you need.

For questions or assistance with any nonmedical issues, you can reach a hospital liaison or concierge by dialing ext. 25 from any hospital phone.

Concierge service is available:

  • Monday to Friday: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Activities for patients and their families are listed in the Hospital Happenings newsletter that is delivered every Monday. It is also available at Volunteer Services on the first floor, or call ext. 52150 for a copy. The Hospital Happenings can also be viewed on channel 6.

Bathrooms and Showers
Each patient room, except the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Medical Observation and Surgical Observation units) has its own bathroom, which parents can use. Parents of children in the ICU may use bathrooms and showers on the second floor, next to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). There are showers available in the Surgical and Medical Observation units. Ask a staff member for assistance with shower locations and towels.

Chapel
Located on the first floor.

Hours: 24 hours a day, seven days a week; Services are 11 a.m. Sunday, 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and for special occasions. See Hospital Happenings for service dates and times. Services also are broadcast on Channel 7.

CPR Classes
Children’s offers free group cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) classes for patient families in the hospital. The classes are offered many times a week and do not require a doctor’s order. Ask your child’s nurse for more information about class dates, times and locations.

Family Night
Family Night is from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday night. It is a great time for families to have fun together. All patients, family members and visitors are invited. Family Night can be anything from a pizza party to a movie to arts and crafts. See your Hospital Happenings newsletter for more information.

Gardens
Our gardens offer a great place for parents and patients looking for peace, quiet and a breath of fresh air. Before taking a patient outside, check with the nurse to make sure it is OK. There are lovely walking paths. When weather permits, there are special activities. Remember, smoking is not permitted in
the gardens.

  • Kristen’s Garden is on the first floor.
  • The Koi Pond Garden is on the sub-basement level.
  • The Lou Glenn Garden is on the first floor, near the main elevators.

Gift Shop
The Gift Shop is located on the first floor in the cafeteria dining area. It has toys, balloons, snacks, books, magazines and personal care products. The helpful and friendly staff is often volunteers. It is open seven days a week with varying hours each day. Call ext. 54516 for more information.

  • Monday to Friday: 9 a.m.- 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: Noon - 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: Noon – 6 p.m.

Gym
10 a.m. to 8 p.m., every day

  • Always wear your parent ID badge.
  • Sign in and read rules and regulations before using equipment.
  • Children younger than 18 years of age are not allowed.
  • Always wear suitable clothing and nonmarking shoes while exercising.
  • Always use a towel while exercising, and remember to wipe equipment after use.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the gym. Water bottles with lids are allowed.
  • Bad language, abuse of equipment or failure to follow the rules will result in loss of gym use.

Lactation/Feeding Rooms
Lactation/feeding rooms are available:

  • Outside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on the second floor (for the general public)
  • In the NICU (for NICU families only)
  • In the Emergency department (ED) (for ED families only
  • Off the main lobby behind the Ladies Restroom

Breast pumps are available for any admitted patient family. There is a lactation consultant onsite Monday to Friday. For more information, ask your nurse.

Laundry Facility
7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., every day

  • If you need laundry detergent, is available for purchase in the Gift Shop
  • Vending machines are available in this location.
  • Do not leave clothes unattended.

Legal Aid from Health Law Partnership (HeLP)
HeLP is a project of Georgia State University’s College of Law, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Atlanta Legal Aid Society. HeLP’s goal is to improve the health and well-being of low-income children and their families through the combined effort of medical and legal experts. HeLP lawyers and staff offer free legal services to families with children receiving care through Children’s who are living at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. HeLP provides legal assistance with civil legal problems, such as housing, domestic violence, child support, guardianship, education problems and public benefits.

To contact HeLP, ask your child’s doctor, nurse or social worker for assistance or call ext. 52005. You do not need a referral from a doctor or hospital staff. The HeLP office is located across from the hospital at 975 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite 550.

Mail/Stamps
Patient mail is received at the main information desk in the lobby on the first floor and delivered daily
to patient rooms.

Patients can receive letters and packages:

  • The mailing address for Children’s at Scottish Rite is 1001 Johnson Ferry Road, Atlanta, GA30342.
  • Mail received after a patient has been discharged from the hospital will be forwarded to the patient’s home address.
  • Stamps may be purchased in the Gift Shop

Max Brown Family Resource Library 
Patients and families are invited to use the free services and materials at the Max Brown Family Resource Library, located on the first floor. There are books in English and Spanish, including health, educational and reference materials, children’s books, videos and DVDs. There are toys and puzzles. There are computers for parents to use with Internet access, CarePages and medical database resources. The librarian is an excellent resource for medical information if you need more detail or have questions about your child’s diagnosis. She will be happy to assist you with your research needs. You can reach the library at ext. 52192. Library hours are posted on the front door.

Newspapers 
Newspapers can be purchased on the ground floor near the cafeteria and in the Gift Shop

Parent Business Center 
A business center (for anyone 18 years of age or older) is located on the first floor. The business center has computers with Internet access, a printer and fax machine. To prevent viruses, computers do not have floppy disk or CD-ROM access.

  • Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Parking 
Children’s charges a small fee for parking. The fees are used to pay expenses associated with parking deck maintenance. Do not park in spaces designated for doctors or hospital vehicle parking.
If you have any questions or concerns, speak to a security officer or call ext. 52073.

Parking Rates

  • 0 to 30 minutes: Free
  • 31 minutes to 1 hour: $1
  • 1 hour to 90 minutes: $2
  • 91 minutes to 2 hours:$3
  • 2 hours to 24 hours: $4

By purchasing a parking discount coupon book from the parking booth attendant, the cost to park is reduced to $1 a day. If you plan on leaving and returning more than once a day, ask the attendant for an in/out pass. Otherwise, you will have to use a coupon each time you leave. These coupons can only be used in the Children’s parking deck, and they do not expire. Enter through the gate of the parking deck.

Valet Parking
Valet parking is available at the front of the hospital. There is a flat rate of $5 each time you use valet parking. Valet parking is available from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Handicap Parking
There are handicap parking spaces on each floor of the main parking deck. Visitors are urged to use the handicap parking spaces on the third floor of the parking deck (the main level of the deck).

Oversized Vehicle Parking
Vehicles exceeding 6 feet 8 inches must park in a space designated for oversized vehicles. Most mini-vans and SUVs will fit in the deck. There are overhead signs at the deck entrance that will measure whether your vehicle will fit.

  • The oversize parking lot, just to the left of the parking deck

Playground 
The playground is located on the first floor. Check with your child’s nurse to make sure it is OK to take your child to the playground. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times while at the playground.

Protecting Valuables 
There is a safe in each patient room. The safe should be open when you arrive at the room. There are instructions on the safe for setting a new code, locking and opening the safe. If the safe is not open, if you forget the code or if the safe’s screen is not lighting up, call Security at ext. 52073 for help.

Room/Food Services
Cafeteria

  • Breakfast: 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Dinner: 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Late Night: 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Room Service

Menu (En Espanol)

A 25 percent cafeteria discount is available to all parents of patients who are admitted to Children’s.
A parent/guardian ID badge is needed to receive the discount. This discount does not apply to food from an outside vendor.

If the doctor orders a special diet (diabetic, low-sodium) for your child, you will receive a diet-specific menu. The order will be approved by a nutritionist before delivery.

Guest trays are available from Room Service. Your nurse or a Guest Services Liaison can deliver guest tray menus. Guest trays are delivered with the patient’s tray, unless a different time is requested or the patient is not receiving meals. For pricing and any other questions, call Room Service at ext. 55324.

Mothers who are breastfeeding as the only means of patient nutrition may receive free meal trays for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Room Service or may receive a discount at the cafeteria. A nurse will alert Room Service and contact the mother with instructions.

School Program for Patients
Classrooms are located on the first floor.

Georgia-certified teachers are available to help patients keep up with their studies. Teachers may visit patient rooms if a child is unable to go to the classroom. A teacher will usually come by within the first three days of a patient’s stay. Call ext. 52098 for more information.

Classrooms have computers and textbooks. Parents should bring their child’s assignments and books to the hospital if possible. Teachers can contact schools to get homework. The child’s school will receive a progress report and attendance note so the child will receive credit for work completed during his stay.

Security
The Security office is on the first floor and can be reached at ext. 52073. Officers patrol the hospital and the hospital grounds.

Security also offers:

Sleep Pods
There are a limited number of sleep rooms in the Family Amenities area on the first floor. There is no cost to use the rooms. These rooms are available to immediate family members for one night at a time. You may sign up for a room with our family and visitor service ambassadors at the front lobby information desk or by dialing ext. 25.

Sign up by 5 p.m. each day. The Concierge will conduct a drawing to assign rooms at5 p.m. at the front lobby information desk. You will be given information about checking in and checking out, if you are assigned a room.

Many families need to use these rooms, and we try to take each family’s situation into consideration. If you are not assigned a room for the evening, our staff will help you find other sleep areas within the hospital or give you information about hotels in the area.

Smoking
Children’s is Tobacco-Free Inside and Out. To support a healing environment, smoking and the use of all tobacco products is not permitted at Children’s. This pertains to all indoor and outdoor areas of our campuses.
