Atlanta, GA – November 1, 2011 – Barnes & Noble stores across the country invite customers to give the gift of reading to children in need during its annual Holiday Book Drive, taking place from November 1, 2011 to January 1, 2012. The Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive provides an opportunity for customers to donate books through locally designated non-profit organizations.
Holiday Book Drive recipients throughout the country include schools, libraries, literacy organizations, family social service agencies and homeless centers. This year, the Duluth, Georgia Barnes & Noble, located at 2205 Pleasant Hill Road Suite 100 Duluth, GA 30096 and the Edgewood Barnes & Noble, located at 1217 Caroline Street, Atlanta, GA 30307, will be collecting books for Reach out and Read at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding.
“The Holiday Book Drive is one of our most popular community partnerships,” says Sarah DiFrancesco, director of community relations for Barnes & Noble. “Our booksellers and customers get to share the pure joy of giving a book to a child in need. And because each Barnes & Noble store chooses its local non-profit beneficiary, the donations are very personal.”
Reach Out and Read is an evidence-based, national nonprofit organization that prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. Reach Out and Read serves 3.9 million children and families annually and has given out more than 6.4 million books. The Reach Out and Read (ROR) program at Children’s at Hughes Spalding began in 1994 and is the first and largest ROR program in Georgia. In the last year, ROR at Children’s at Hughes Spalding has distributed over 16,000 books to patients. Children’s doctors and nurses will use the books from this year’s Annual Holiday Book Drive to continue advising parents about the importance of reading aloud to their children.
