Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease that affects the body’s respiratory and digestive systems. It causes the body to produce an excess of thick mucous. The excess mucous causes the bile ducts to become blocked and inflamed. This causes liver damage.

A small number of CF patients develop liver disease. Symptoms of liver disease may include:

  • Enlarged liver
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Jaundice, yellow color to the skin
  • Vomiting of blood
