Resident physicians in anesthesiology should acquire experience and training in the anesthetic management of children of all ages in elective and emergency situations. This experience will include a wide range of surgical cases in all pediatric surgical specialties, with the exception of cardiac anesthesia only being offered to the advanced CA-3 resident physicians.
Residents have the opportunity to acquire sound clinical competence for the management of:
- Pediatric airway
- Pediatric trauma care
- Preoperative assessment
- Intraoperative management
- Postoperative diagnosis
- Treatment of acute pediatric pain
During the rotation, residents should be able to achieve increasing responsibility for clinical decision making in pediatric anesthesiology. Participation in didactic training includes attending and conducting teaching conferences in basic pediatric anesthesiology. Residents are expected to complete the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements for pediatric anesthesia during this rotation.
How to apply
House officers are chosen using academic records, letters of recommendation and personal interviews. Only applications submitted through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) are accepted.
Our Dean's office requires a copy of your medical school diploma and proof of successful completion of your postgraduate year (PGY)-1 training. Residents accepted through the match must have this documentation on file at the beginning of their training.
International graduates must submit a copy of their Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Standard Certificate. In addition to being certified by the ECFMG, international graduates must also be sponsored by the ECFMG.
