The music therapy internship in inpatient rehabilitation has been an established National Roster registered internship site with the American Music Therapy Association since 2012. Here at Children’s we accept music therapy internship students who have met the requirements outlined in the Music Therapy National Roster Internship Guidelines. These guidelines specify that the music therapy intern must have acquired all pre-internship competencies required by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), the AMTA approved college or university, and the internship before beginning the internship. If you are interested in pre-internship practicum placement, please see below.

Music therapy interns will complete specialized training on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Program working with patients from 0-21 years of age that are transferring from across the region and other hospital units into our program. This unit is approved by CARF with specialized pediatric inpatient rehabilitation for spinal cord injuries, traumatic and non-traumatic brain injuries, burns, cardiac, disorders of consciousness, hematology/oncology, and other neurological impairments/injuries. Interns will also have opportunities to observe and work alongside several of our other music therapist’s serving in other hospital service areas as available. Some of these other opportunities may include specialized music therapy services on the PICU, NICU, TICU, and cardiac service lines at our Scottish Rite and Egleston locations.

Applications may be submitted from June – November for the next year’s internship. If submitted outside of this date range the application will not be considered or reviewed. One student is selected per calendar year. Questions can be directed to Cori Snyder, Clinical Music Therapy Internship Director who will complete the review of applications, phone interviews, and onsite interview. Candidate selection will be made by December.
