Annual Research Report
Recently, Shari Barkin, MD, joined Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta as Pediatrician-in-Chief, and Emory University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics as Chair, following Lucky Jain, MD. During Dr. Jain’s nearly 30 years of service, National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for research grew from a national ranking of 49 in 2004 to holding a place in the top five for the past nine years.
With new leadership and the opening of Children’s Arthur M. Blank Hospital, research opportunities abound. The more than 2-million-square-foot state-of-the-art healthcare facility includes the new Marcus Center for Cellular Therapy, a good manufacturing practices (GMP) lab opening later this year.
