Why We are Here
Traumatic Brain Injury Research
Pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant health issue, affecting a large number of children in the United States each year. It results in over 500,000 emergency department visits and approximately 60,000 hospitalizations annually. The consequences for affected children and their families can be severe, leading to deficits in cognition, mood and social development.
Despite extensive research efforts, there is currently no reliable biomarker for diagnosing or prognosticating pediatric TBI. Our research aims to create a comprehensive biorepository, collecting data and biomarkers from over 10,000 people in the next 10 years, from patients that have sustained a TBI as well as those with other non-head injury traumas, creating the largest biorepository in the world.
