Phone Calls

We know how important it is for family and friends to easily connect with our patients. You may call patients directly in their rooms by following the instructions below.

Patients and their visitors can also call out using hospital phones in patient rooms or personal cell phones.

Calling the hospital

  • Patients may receive direct calls in their rooms from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
  • After 10 p.m., our hospital operators answer calls to patient rooms.

Calling Egleston hospital

If you don’t know the patient’s unit or room number, call the operator at 404-785-KIDS (5437).

If you know the patient’s unit and room number, follow the instructions below:

Cardiac Step-down Unit
Dial 404-553-90 and the last two digits of the room number.

Surgery and Transplant—General Pediatric Unit
Dial 404-553-94 and the last two digits of the room number.

Neurology—General Pediatric Unit
Dial 404-553-95 and the last two digits of the room number.

Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center Unit
Dial 404-785-4 and the room number.

Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit
Dial 404-553-93 and the last two digits of the room number.

Calling Hughes Spalding hospital

If you know the patient’s room number, dial 404-785-98 and the last two digits of the room number.

You can also dial the operator at 404-785-KIDS (5437).

Calling Scottish Rite

If you know the patient’s room number, dial 404-785-4 and the room number.

You can also dial the operator at 404-785-KIDS (5437).

Cell phone usage

You may use your personal cell phone in designated areas and patient rooms. Look for signage to direct you. We ask that you not use your cell phone in a patient room when clinical staff members are present.

For your convenience, there is a cell phone charging station available at the library at both Egleston and Scottish Rite.

Hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Calling from a hospital phone

Here’s how to make a call from any of our hospital phones:

  • For outside calls: Dial 9 + the area code + the phone number.
  • For long distance calls: 1) Dial 9-1-800-COLLECT; or 2) Dial 9-1-800-CALL-ATT (to reach an AT&T operator); or 3) Using a private calling card, dial 9 + the number on the card.
  • To call an extension within a hospital: Dial 5 + the last four digits of the number.
  • To call the operator: Dial 0.
