Research is a cornerstone of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta mission to enhance the lives of children. In conjunction with Emory University School of Medicine, Georgia Tech and Morehouse, Children’s seeks answers to the most challenging childhood medical conditions through teaching and research.

Children who are overweight are now suffering from diseases once seen only in adults, such as hypertension, liver disease and Type 2 diabetes. That's why Children’s launched Strong4Life, a wellness movement designed to ignite societal change and reverse the epidemic of childhood obesity and its associated diseases in Georgia.

Children’s is one of the highest volume pediatric heart centers in the country. Our patient outcomes are also better than the national average.*

Why do volumes matter?

You want an experienced team to care for your child. High volumes mean we can provide dedicated cardiac staff, hospital space and technology. Research shows that centers that perform a higher number of complex heart surgeries have better patient outcomes.

Why is demonstrating outcomes important?

At Sibley Heart Center, care does not stop at the bedside. We measure and track how our patients are doing after treatment. This allows us to evaluate our treatments and ensure we are providing high-quality care.

By participating in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), we can compare our patient outcomes to national averages.
