Relationship-based Care (RBC) is the heart of nursing at Children’s. RBC focuses on three crucial relationships that are supported and sustained by a caring and healing environment. These relationships are the nurse’s relationships with patients and families, colleagues and self.
The nurse/patient relationship is the foundation of patient care. In the Michael P. Fisher Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), our patient assignments are patient-centered and promote the continuum of care. Coordination of care is driven by the priorities of each patient’s needs, and we invite families to take part in this coordination through our family-centered rounds.
We recognize, reward and support each other in a variety of ways. From unit activities to support groups, we believe how we care for each other is directly connected to our ability to provide world-class cardiac care to patients.
Nearly half the eligible nurses in the CICU are CCRN (Certified Critical Care Nurse) certified, which is just one example of dedicated skill, experience and passion.
