Ready to Run After Being Sidelined for Years

When Steven Morton was a high school freshman, he was diagnosed with acute myocarditis and had a sudden cardiac arrest in the hospital. Once revived, he was placed on ECMO and quickly began to recover.  Steven continued to receive care from the Children’s Sibley Heart Center. Now a junior, he has joined his high school track team.

A local school nurse received  the Karen Smith Award for her efforts to emphasize the importance of CPR and AED training in Gilmer County schools.  Alison Ellison, Project S.A.V.E. coordinator, presented this award to the nurse on behalf of Children’s.
