The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Program offers many specialized services for children and teenagers with gastrointestinal, liver and nutritional disorders.

Our comprehensive programs, services and clinics include:

  • Aerodigestive Center

      We offer aerodigestive care through gastroenterology, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), pulmonary medicine and access to voice disorder specialists, nutritionists and speech pathologists for children with conditions, including:

      - Asthma

      - Chronic cough with or without reflux or laryngopharyngeal disease

      - Feeding problems associated with oral-pharyngeal dysfunction

      - Hoarseness, noninfectious pharyngitis/laryngitis

      - Laryngopharyngeal diseases with coexisting esophageal and respiratory disease

      - Recurrent aspiration and/or pneumonia with reflux and/or laryngopharyngeal issues

      - Reflux/gastroesophageal reflux disease

  • Colorectal Clinic

      Our colorectal clinic provides care for children with surgical diseases resulting in constipation, soiling, poor motility and pain as a consequence or complication of the disease. Our multidisciplinary team of surgeons and specialists care for children with:

      - Spina bifida

      - Anorectal malformations

      - Hirschsprungs disease (that requires regular follow-up)

  • Eosinophilic Esophagitis/Gastroenteritis

      We offer consultations from a gastroenterologist, allergist and nutritionist. With all these services in the same clinic, your child will benefit from easy access to doctors with a range of specialties. Our staff treats conditions, including:

      - Allergic gastrointestinal disease (gastroenteritis)

      - Eosinophilic esophagitis

      - Food allergies that affect the gastrointestinal tract

  • General Gastroenterology

      We provide care to general gastroenterology patients. Gastroenterologists also treat patients with conditions related to their specialty, including:

      - Celiac disease

      - Complex nutritional problems

      - Congenital metabolism errors

      - Diarrhea/constipation

      - Gastroesophageal reflux disease

      - Gastrointestinal bleeding 

      - Helicobacter pylori infection

      - Pancreatitis (acute and chronic)

      - Vomiting

  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

      Children's Combined Center for IBD offers some of the country's best treatments for pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. 

      We offer a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to care that allows patients to be seen by many providers all in one visit.

  • Integrated Enteral Feeds Advancement Team (IEAT)

      Our Integrated Enteral Feeds Advancement Team (IEAT) is a multidisciplinary clinic for patients with feeding tubes who may eventually be able to take most of their nutrition by mouth. 

      This includes most children with feeding tubes.

  • Intestinal Rehabilitation Program

      Intestinal Rehabilitation of Children's (IROC) provides comprehensive care for children with intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome by offering a full range of services, from medical to nutritional to surgical management. 

  • Liver Disease Program

      We are home to one of the Southeast's leading pediatric liver disease programs. We treat a large variety of liver-related conditions and complications, including:

      - Autoimmune hepatitis

      - Biliary tract disease (biliary atresia)

      - Chronic viral hepatitis

      - Fatty liver disease

      - Hepatitis (abnormal liver enzymes) and acute liver failure

      - Liver transplant

      - Neonatal jaundice

      - Sclerosing cholangitis

      - Wilson's disease

  • Neurogastroenterology and Motility

      Our team is made up of qualified professionals who create highly specialized treatment plans for children with the following motility issues:

      - Abdominal pain or bloating

      - Aspirating

      - Chest pain

      - Choking

      - Constipation

      - Diarrhea 

      - Difficulty swallowing

      - Gagging

      - Incontinence or soiling

      - Regurgitation

      - Vomiting

      - Weight loss 

  • Weight and Wellness

      Through our Strong4Life Clinic, we provide a holistic approach to obesity. 

      Families complete a nutritional assessment by a dietician to develop family-based lifestyle changes—with medication, if needed—to improve long-term health. 

      Our staff can treat many conditions, including:

      - Dyslipidemias

      - Hypertension

      - Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

      - Overweight/obesity
