Pediatric Orthopaedic Services

Brachial Plexus ClinicWe offer comprehensive orthopaedic services through one of the top pediatric programs of its kind in the U.S.

In 2013, we ranked among the top 10 pediatric orthopaedic programs in the country by U.S.News & World Report.*

Our pediatric-trained, multidisciplinary team includes orthopaedic surgeons, primary care sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and certified athletic trainers. This team provides care for thousands of patients who require specialized medical and surgical treatment for musculoskeletal conditions such as scoliosis, congenital anomalies and deformities like polydactyly and trauma, and in sports-related injuries like a rotator cuff repair.

Program Highlights

  • General orthopaedic services

      - From simple fractures to hip impingement, we provide a complete comprehensive care for children and teenagers with congenital, neuromuscular and post-traumatic problems of the musculoskeletal system.

      - After surgical and non-surgical intervention, our Hand and Upper Extremity Therapy Program can help patients with congenital or complex hand conditions reach the highest level of function possible.

      - We treat more fracture-related Emergency Department visits in children and teens than any other hospital in Georgia.

  • Limb deficiency

      - Including the patient and their family in the assessment process helps us design a prosthesis and select components that meet the goals of the patient and the family.

      - Our prosthetists work with an in-house team of technical experts to fabricate the highest quality prosthesis for each patient.

      - We offer prenatal support to expectant parents or those adopting a child with a limb deficiency.

      - We work with our patients and their families to produce custom prosthetic devices made in our own fabrication lab and suited to each patient’s unique needs.

      - We are a specialized center for advanced “intelligent hand” technology and treatment for patients with partial or full limb deficiency.

  • Spine

      - Our Orthopaedic Spine Services offer comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care for children and teens with scoliosis and other conditions and deformities of the spine.

      - Orthopaedic spine surgeons offer many options to meet the needs of children and teens with different spine conditions. They provide minimally invasive techniques when possible. These techniques are used to optimize care for your child.

      - We perform more spinal fusions for idiopathic scoliosis than any other pediatric hospital in the U.S.*

      - We produce custom orthotic devices for in our fabrication lab, including braces for spinal conditions.

      - Our spine team has developed and implemented a comprehensive, evidence-based spine fusion pathway to optimize and coordinate patient care. This pathway provides patients and families with a step-by-step plan on what to expect in all phases of care after spine fusion.

      - The Scoliosis Screening Program provides detailed case management and tertiary screening clinics for patients with signs of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

  • Sports medicine

      - Our programs and services are designed to identify and correct sports techniques and training errors for a quick—yet safe—return to play. We use special equipment and technology to find and correct sports techniques that may cause injuries or affect performance.

      - All of our physical therapists and certified athletic trainers are experts in treating young athletes so they recover better and know when to play again.

      - The program provides certified athletic trainers at multiple Atlanta high schools, as well as event coverage for club sports and other local and national organizations. Certified athletic trainers affiliated with the program provide timely communications to athletes, parents, coaches, school administrators and team doctors at all of the schools or club sports for which they provide coverage.

      - One of the country's leading sports medicine programs for child and teen athletes, we help young athletes prevent and recognize injuries through programs that teach proper sports techniques.
