Community Involvement

Sports Med Community Involvement

The Children’s Sports Medicine Program is actively involved in the local community as well as the sports medicine professional community in a variety of ways.

Community events

Sports Medicine physical therapists and certified athletic trainers from Children’s recently participated in the following events:

  • ALS Run for Life 5K Run/Walk
  • Girls on the Run 5K

Saturday morning educational seminars

Children’s Sports Medicine Program understands that coaches, therapists, athletic trainers and nurses play a key role in preventing sports injuries and responding to them properly when they occur. Because of this, we have developed educational seminars to equip these professionals with critical information and resources to protect young athletes and lessen the risk for injuries on the playing field. These conferences are held three times a year on Saturday mornings and cover a variety of topics.

Student Athletic Trainer Workshops

Each year the Children's Sports Medicine Program hosts a one-day workshop for high school students interested in sports medicine. During this training session, students learn about concussions, heat illness, packing a medical kit, splinting, stretching, taping techniques, treatment of acute injuries and wound care.

Members of the Children’s team have valuable knowledge and experience in the field of athletic training and high school sports injury management.
