Some of the approximately 1,200 hospital volunteers, known as "Friends," work behind the scenes in hospital administrative support. Others assist families and hospital visitors with excellent customer service. Most volunteers have the opportunity to interact with hospital patients every day—rocking babies, helping with schoolwork, delivering videos and books, hosting special events and working in our popular gift shops among their many contributions.
Children's offers many hospital volunteer opportunities for a variety of ages and groups:
- Adult Volunteers
The adult program is for individuals 18 years of age and older who are not currently enrolled in college.
- College Volunteers
Each college program session spans 12 weeks during the fall and spring semesters.
The VolunTEEN program is perfect for high school students ages 15-18 looking for a rewarding way to spend part of their summer.
Explorers is an educational program for high school students that provides an insight into a variety of healthcare professions, both clinical and non-clinical. Information for the 2016-2017 program will be available in August 2016.
- Med Kids
The Med Kids program is for currently enrolled middle school students (6th, 7th and 8th grade) who are interested in learning more about healthcare professions.
- Young Friends
The Young Friends Program for kids in K-5th grade is a great way for our youngest volunteers to begin their service to Children's.
- Family Volunteer Day
Family Volunteer Day provides families in the community with the opportunity to learn about the patients and families we serve at Children's while working on service projects that benefit them.
- Hospital Engagement Opportunities
Opportunity for Children's employees, community groups or corporate groups to sponsor a hospital event.
