Introduction

C. Matthew Hawkins, MD, is a board-certified interventional radiologist and Associate Professor at the Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences. Dr. Hawkins currently serves as Director of Pediatric Interventional Radiology, Medical Director of the Vascular Anomalies Clinic and Medical Director of the Telemedicine Program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

After earning his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Dr. Hawkins completed his diagnostic radiology residency training at the University of Cincinnati. Following residency, he completed a fellowship in pediatric radiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and a fellowship in vascular interventional radiology at Seattle Children’s Hospital, University of Washington Medical Center.

Dr. Hawkins specializes in the treatment of vascular malformations, pediatric hepatobiliary interventions and venous thromboembolic disease. His nonclinical interests include health policy, informatics and performance improvement, specifically target healthcare challenges where these disciplines intersect.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Hawkins has been an active volunteer in national radiology organizations. He currently serves, or has previously served, on the American College of Radiology (ACR) Council Steering Committee, on the ACR’s Board of Chancellors, as Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Radiology, as Associate Editor for the Journal of Vascular Anomalies, and as Chair of the Economics Committee for the Society of Interventional Radiology. He has authored more than 75 peer-reviewed publications and more than 20 columns in radiology journals. Additionally, Dr. Hawkins has been an invited speaker at more than 125 national lectures.
