Bone Substitutes

Hydroxyapatite Cement

The Children’s Center for Craniofacial Disorders has helped many children using bone substitutes for craniofacial surgery. Bone substitutes may prevent the need for harvesting bone grafts from the patient’s own body. They are especially helpful for skull and orbital cavity reconstruction. Hydroxyapatite cement is a ceramic bone substitute that can be used as a putty to fill cranial and orbital defects.
