Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) Project
Children's has collaborated with Columbia University to study and better understand the cognitive difficulties that boys, ages 3-17, with DMD and Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) experience, and try to offer suggestions to make these difficulties less severe. The project, titled "Cognitive Skills in Boys with Muscular Dystrophy" has been funded by the National Institute for Child Health and Development of NIH; the National Institute for Neurological Disease and Stroke; and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The DMD Project has currently seen over 250 patients, and is actively looking for others to be involved! Please contact Jacqueline Kiefel, Ph.D., for more information related to the evaluation of any aged child with DMD for concerns about school and behavior, or to inquire about becoming a participant in the DMD preschool study (ages 3-6).
