ATLANTA (January 2, 2025) — Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has named Srikant Iyer, MD, Chief Medical and Quality Officer at Children’s. In this role, Dr. Iyer will oversee Children’s Campus Medical Operations, Quality and Patient Safety and Professional Staff Services.

The change comes after Jim Fortenberry, MD, retired from his leadership position of Chief Medical Officer at the end of 2024, after more than three decades of dedication and commitment to Children’s. During his tenure as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Fortenberry provided skillful direction to the Professional Staff, led physician operations, provided quality oversight and helped Children’s navigate the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Iyer has been with Children’s since 2018, most recently serving as Chief Quality Officer and Chief of Emergency Services. He is also a Professor of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. Prior to these roles, Dr. Iyer was responsible for helping lead Cincinnati Children’s efforts to improve community and population health.

“It is with great excitement that we appoint Dr. Iyer as our new Chief Medical and Quality Officer,” said Ron Frieson, Chief Operating Officer at Children’s. “Over the years, Dr. Iyer has consistently proven to be a trusted leader at Children’s, championing our values and driving forward our commitment to patient-centered care. His extensive experience and unwavering dedication to our mission will undoubtedly help guide us into the future as we continue to grow and deliver the best care to Georgia’s kids.”

Dr. Iyer received his medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Public Health at Harvard University.
