William T. Mahle, MD, to Assume Role as Chief of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Heart Center


ATLANTA (April 2015) – Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta has selected William T. Mahle, MD, at Pediatric Cardiologist, to become the newest Chief of the Children’s Sibley Heart Center. Dr. Mahle, who currently serves as Medical Director of the Heart Transplant Program and Marcus Professor of Pediatric Cardiology, will assume his new role on May 1.

Dr. Mahle will succeed Robert M. Campbell, MD, who is stepping down after 25 years of dedicated service to focus on full-time clinical care with the Children’s Sibley Heart Center. “I am excited about focusing more on my clinical practice, as well as teaching the next generation of pediatric cardiologists,” said Dr. Campbell, who led the Heart Center to become one of the top five programs in the country. “Dr. Mahle is a leader who understands and supports our culture of teamwork and commitment to service and excellence. I know his leadership will carry us forward into the next chapter of our program.”

Dr. Mahle has served on the Children’s Sibley Heart Center leadership team since 2005, and has achieved national recognition for his leadership in pediatric cardiology, serving as President of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Study Group (PHTS), Chair of the Council of Cardiovascular Disease in the Young of the American Heart Association, member of the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics section of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, Vice Chair of Pediatric Committee of the United Network of Organ Sharing, and as a principal investigator for the Pediatric Heart Network. He has published more than 150 research and review articles, four book chapters, and is an accomplished national and international speaker, presenting at the American Academy of Pediatrics, Annual Symposium on Congenital Heart Disease, American College of Cardiology, and Annual Update on Pediatric and Congenital Cardiovascular Disease, among others.
