Crystal Perkins, MD, is an Atlanta native and completed her orthopedic residency training at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C., before returning to Atlanta for a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Following her fellowship, Dr. Perkins joined our Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Program. Dr. Perkins is a board-certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the treatment of sports and traumatic injuries in children, adolescents and young adults. She specializes in the care of the hip, knee, ankle, shoulder and elbow.

Dr. Perkins currently serves as Medical Director for Orthopaedic Quality and Outcomes at Children’s. She is committed to improving patient care and advancing medicine through quality and outcomes research. She is a member of several multicenter study groups and has numerous publications. Dr. Perkins is a consulting associate for the Duke University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

In her free time, Dr. Perkins enjoys competing in triathlons, spending time with her family and exploring Atlanta restaurants.

Children’s orthopedic surgeons are paving the way in ACL reconstruction research

A team of orthopedic surgeons at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta have published a study on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repairing practices and introduce a new technique to reduce the chances of a tear in the future. Children’s is consistently studying patients’ outcomes and revising practices based on new statistics, demonstrating that the focus is always making kids better today and healthier tomorrow.

Getting Peyton Back on the Field After an ACL Tear

14-year-old Peyton Thomas injured her knee during a team soccer tryout and her family knew immediately where they were going to take her – Children’s. There, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon, Crystal Perkins, MD, diagnosed Peyton with an ACL tear, guided her through surgery and used functional testing to help her return to soccer.
