Introduction
Michael Sawvel, MD, joined Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in 2018. After attending college at Indiana Wesleyan University, where he majored in biology and chemistry, he received his doctorate with honors from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. While completing neurosurgical training at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, his interest in pediatric neurosurgery was fostered.
Dr. Sawvel is well versed in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric neurosurgical conditions, including brain tumors, congenital malformations, spina bifida, craniofacial disorders, surgical treatment of epilepsy, vascular malformations, Moya Moya, tethered spinal cord, Chiari malformations, spinal cord tumors, hydrocephalus and spinal instrumentation.
He has written and presented on multiple topics specific to pediatric neurosurgery, including trauma, brain tumors and hydrocephalus.
